REGAL is excited to be a part of this year's U.S. Department of Homeland Security, Science and Technology Directorate, Office of University Programs Fifth Annual Summit. The agenda is featuring cutting-edge research and development on the topic of "Catastrophes and Complex Systems", with a focus on the role of transportation systems in preventing, mitigating, responding to, and recovering from natural or man-made disasters.
This year's Summit is being held at the Renaissance Hotel in Washington DC and will take place from March 30th through April 1st. On March 31st, Joe Borkoski, Jr. will represent REGAL as a panelist along with Jeff Miller, Director of Strategic Security Programs for the National Football League (NFL) and Daniel DeLorenzi, Director of Security at the New Meadowlands Stadium. The title of the Panel is Emergency Large-Scale Event Evacuation; Pilot Studies and will be moderated by Chris Doyle from the U.S Department of Homeland Security Advanced Research Projects Agency (HSARPA).
There will also be several keynote speakers present; including DHS Secretary Janet Napolitano, DHS Science & Technology Under Secretary Tara O'Toole, and TSA Administrator John Pistole. Multiple topics of discussion will be covered through morning and afternoon panels including how transportation systems can be affected by disasters. Also as an item of note, Mike Mathews the Program Manager of Infrastructure Protection and Evacuation Planning for DHS S&T, will be moderating a panel discussion featuring the Role of Transportation in Large-Scale Event Evacuation.
